Living in a Bubble
I had the pleasure of photographing the San Diego Kids Expo last Sunday (for Togally.com). So many forms of entertainment for today’s kids! I particularly loved this colorful bubble, hamster-wheel contraption that spun around in a pool of water. Not to sound like an old person (which I am), we didn’t have cool things like this in our childhood. We had a sprinkler on the … Continue reading Living in a Bubble
The Importance of Focal Length with Faces
After thousands of photos, through trial and error, reading, and seminars, I have learned the importance of using a longer focal length in getting good portrait photos. Today I spent with my Muse (also known as Moose), and she was getting up close to my camera (a toy, in her book). I was using my standard 18-55mm lens, and I was shooting so close to … Continue reading The Importance of Focal Length with Faces
More on My Muse
This baby is amazing me each week. Now most of you are probably parents and think “been there, done that.” I am enjoying each zen moment and all the changes that are happening, so forgive my ramblings on what I see as an amazing chapter of life right now. As someone who has worked or gone to school (or both) since I was five years … Continue reading More on My Muse
What Kind of Writer Are You?
I found a new website that I think I’m going to enjoy a lot http://rebeccatdickson.com/ Rebecca had a survey to figure out what kind of writer you are, and guess what? I’m a journalist. After majoring in journalism in college, working on my high school newspaper, and working most of my life in a journalistic (albeit marketing) career, I already knew that. But it was … Continue reading What Kind of Writer Are You?
My Name is Sharon, and I am a Tog
My main vocational passions are writing and photography. Those with such skills and desires are often required to use those talents in marketing, which is what I did for most of my 35-year career in communications. Ironically, as a freelancer, marketing as been at the bottom of my list of activities. Who has time to market when there are images to document and words to … Continue reading My Name is Sharon, and I am a Tog
My Muse
What can I say? I have been smitten and this girl is my favorite model now. I can’t tell you the joy of being able to watch her grow, learn and change. Continue reading My Muse
Zucchini Season
For those of you who grow summer veggies, you may encounter what we do: an abundance of zucchini and a question of what to do with it all. I’m capturing zucchini recipes that sound like winners, as I hate to waste these prolific babies. Ina Garten’s casserole sounds very good. I haven’t tried it yet, but based on the ingredients, I know I will like … Continue reading Zucchini Season
Abstract Macro Flower Photos
Experimented today with shooting some macro photos of one rose in bloom, and some French lavender that is growing in the yard. What strikes me with macro photography is the detail I don’t notice with my naked eye. I especially loved the detail of the lavender and its spores/pollen receptors, or whatever they are. I need to research that. I’m hoping to find a tranquil … Continue reading Abstract Macro Flower Photos
Baby Steps with Baby Photography
My background is journalism and photojournalism, but I’ve spent the last year trying to hone my skills with portrait photography. I’ve captured many “in the moment” documentary photos of all my nieces and nephews (and all the family and friends) from the last 25+ years, but I am trying to get my formal portraiture down. It’s a learning process. Taking classes here and there and … Continue reading Baby Steps with Baby Photography
In the Garden
I love spring for all the possibilities and the new life it brings. In spite of all these weird weather patterns we’re having in SoCal (unprecedented early Santa Anas = fire hazards), spring has sprung. Because it has been warmer earlier than before, we were able to plant our summer vegetable garden in early May vs. end of the month. The picture above was taken … Continue reading In the Garden
