Public Transit Done Right
One recent job I completed was for the Cleveland National Forest Foundation’s Transit San Diego website. If you read the website, the first question everyone asks is why would a forest initiative care about urban public transportation? As I’ve learned working with these amazing people, without a functional city and less dependency on automobiles, the forest is doomed to sprawl, which equates to climate change. … Continue reading Public Transit Done Right
Stupid and Small Things….
It really is the stupid and small things that hit me hard when thinking about losing my sister Marion so quickly last year. One year ago today, we had no idea she would be gone from us. In less than two months, it will be the one year anniversary of her loss. How can that be? Back to the stupid things: Marion and I were … Continue reading Stupid and Small Things….
May Day Photos and Learning My Limitations
I’ve been lagging on my blog and falling short of my goals. Time to get into gear, Sharon. No excuses. Just do it. Today gave me a good reason to blog: some photos from a seminar I attended today. Part of my problem is I am scattered. Unfocused. AADD. I love doing this; wait, there is a nice, new shiny thing to do. Let’s go … Continue reading May Day Photos and Learning My Limitations
Traveling Like a Resident
Nice day today with Lisa running errands down the hill, checking up on our brother in his new home, and visiting our brother-in-law, Whitey. Both the guys are doing okay, so that is a huge plus in our lives. While giving blood at the Blood Bank, I read a story by Andrew McCarthy in the AAA “Westways” magazine. Yes, that Brat Pack Andrew McCarthy, but … Continue reading Traveling Like a Resident
My Hometown
I have said this before, but I will say it again – I love finding out about the machinations of what is happening in my little hometown of Descanso. Now that I am retired from a 9-5 job and I am currently freelancing, I learn more about my community each week. My latest piece in East County Magazine is about the water issues in our … Continue reading My Hometown
Storybook Cottages
If I had my druthers, I would never choose a large McMansion in which to live. My first choice would be a storybook cottage. I think it’s the Hobbit in me. I love hobbit and fairytale cottages. This article appealed to me. Continue reading Storybook Cottages
Alpine Unification: I don’t have the answers for today’s education issues; do you?
Just posted my latest in East County Magazine on the forward movement of Alpine becoming a K-12 district, bypassing the Grossmont Unified High School District (GUHSD). http://eastcountymagazine.org/node/15141 It seems obvious to me that the GUHSD has misused funds intended for an Alpine High School. The other side of the coin is that the Alpine Union School District has some pretty serious financial woes. So, my … Continue reading Alpine Unification: I don’t have the answers for today’s education issues; do you?
Where do all those photos go?
I wonder how many people still order prints to make old fashioned photo albums? Or scrapbooks? And how many of you order photobooks instead? Or do most of you leave your photos as digital images out there in the virtual world? With Instagram, iPhone photos, and everything digital, my guess is that the vast majority of photos remain virtual images. Am I wrong? I love … Continue reading Where do all those photos go?
Updates to Solar Farms
I attended the Descanso Planning Group meeting last Thursday (Julie, you said you’d meet me there. I’m still waiting for you!). The company proposing a local solar farm in our community had a representative who briefly spoke about the plans. On one hand, I was relieved to see it is not the scope that is planned in other areas, but still, I have my reservations. … Continue reading Updates to Solar Farms
Life 101- It’s a Circle, Indeed
After an up-and-down year in 2013, I’m digging 2014. So far, not just “so good,” but great. We lost several people last year — my Uncle Kikie, Cousin Ken, a few friends, but the hardest for me was my sister, Marion. A year ago, if someone had even suggested that Marion would be gone, I would not have believed it. She was the invincible one. … Continue reading Life 101- It’s a Circle, Indeed
